BiographyJoel Douek is an award winning composer and instrumentalist, whose music has appeared in hundreds of TV episodes, major documentary specials, as well as numerous films and national commercials. Specializing in orchestral drama, he also brings a fascination with world music and electronica into many of his scores. From big-screen IMAX features such as the Liam Neeson-narrated Everest adventure: The Wildest Dream, Shark Week and documentary specials such as LIFE - Discovery Channels Emmy-nominated sequel to Planet Earth, to iconic animations such as Yugioh, Sonic X and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Joels music brings scene and story to life. Often plundering his growing collection of bizarre and obscure instruments, from PVC plumbing pipes to AfroPeruvian Donation Box (Cajita), Joel enjoys exploring beyond conventions to bring surprising sounds and textures to his music. Joel is a past winner of the Song Of The Year Contest for his work with Karin Brennan on the song Kings X. Working with Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto, he arranged and co-produced a re-imagining of Nat King Coles classic Brazilian Love Song for EMI Re:Generations Album. Joels additional album credits include Duel Madness (Dreamworks Records) and the Latin Madness remix of Destinys Childs Lose My Breath. As Music Director for Dream it Do it - a program bringing music and arts exposure and opportunities to underserved teens, Joel emphasizes the directness of expression and emotional communication that music allows, coordinating drum circles, songwriting and recording sessions, as well as diverse musical performances. Joel is on the New York Steering Committee for the Society of Composers and Lyricists. He also serves on the advisory board of Game Music Inc. Joel is originally from London, and lives in New York City. |
